Asher the cockatoo sings and dances along to coronavirus anthem We’re All In This Together

A ‘flamboyant’ cockatoo has followed people around the globe to perform its own hilarious rendition of High School Musical’s We’re All In This Together during the coronavirus lockdown.

Asher, a Ducorps’s cockatoo from Coffinswell, South Devon, has won the hearts of thousands of viewers on Facebook with his singing and dancing of the Disney anthem which has become a rallying call of the global pandemic.

NHS staff, key workers and famous faces have created their own version of the song from the 2006 film.

The white cockatoo is filmed strutting his stuff, bobbing his head to the beat and chanting what sounds like ‘together’ while dancing from side to side during the verse.

When the chorus kicks in he breaks out into a brilliant rendition, singing ‘we’re all in this together,’ and flapping his wings to the beat.

The little bird looks pleased with himself and puts on quite the show on top of his black cage.

His cover was shared by Devon Cage and Aviary Bird Rescue, which has been viewed by 3.5million people.

It comes after the cast of the hit films reunited for the first time in a decade for a one off performance for ABC’s The Disney Family Singalong on Thursday night hosted by Ryan Seacrest.

The original cast, including Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman and Lucas Grabeel put on the show remotely from their homes.

Heartthrob Zac Efron didn’t take part in the rendition but introduced the singers, saying: ‘Hi everyone and I hope that you are safe and healthy you’re doing as well as possible during these unprecedented times.

‘It is my greatest pleasure to introduce a musical performance by some of my oldest friends and some new ones.

‘I hope you enjoy and remember that we’re all in this together.’

A spokesman for the animal rescue, which is based in Coffinswell, South Devon, said: ‘Asher is just one of many different birds that we rescue here.

‘Usually birds come from people who can’t look after them any more or the bird might be injured. Once they come to us they then stay with us for the rest of their lives.

‘Although all of the parrots that live with us enjoy listening to music and having a dance along, Asher is by far the most flamboyant performer and, as you can see, he knows the words to this song and the dance moves too.

‘What has been really wonderful is not only how many people have now viewed the video – over 3.5 million – but the thousands of messages that we have been sent from around the world with folks saying how Asher’s singing and dancing has brightened their day and some who say they play the film several times a day during lockdown to keep their spirits up. That makes us very happy.’
